American ballet dancer Misty Copeland was born on September 10, 1982 in Kansas City, Missouri. One with an African American, German American, and Italian American ancestry, she was raised in Los Angeles. While she was still a child, she started to idolize Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci right after she saw her on the film Nadia. During that time, she did not engage in a ballet and gymnast training yet until she was in her teenage years, particularly starting at 13 years old. It was when she turned 15 when she was awarded with Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards which gave her the opportunity to study at San Francisco Ballet School. For almost three years, she was also able to train with Cynthia and Patrick Bradley. Presently, she is known to be performing for the American Ballet Theatre (ABT).
Since Misty is naturally a dancer, she can always work her body out while having fun. She said, “To me, dancing is the best overall body workout, as well as being fun and fulfilling. It’s also mentally demanding, since I’m not only putting physical stress on my body, but I’m performing and becoming an actress through my character.”
And when it comes to her diet, she said she always makes it sure that what she eats are healthy. These include dried fruit, unsalted nuts, and fruits like grapes and strawberries. She also makes it a point to drink plenty of water every day.
